He was waiting until he was 18 and able to live independently before telling them rather than ending up homeless. And sadly his Air Arya Shirt story is far from unusual. Except some parents are abusive, unfit, or just homophobic. In those cases, the school has to put the child first. Schools are often the first line of defense for a child against physical abuse in the home. It happens much more than people want to admit.

I’m totally not telling the Air Arya Shirt parents and watching them be all calm and polite to my face, then sending the kid home to get the crap beaten out of them or have them put on a plane so I never find out where they went or what happened. I’ll get over the parent being cross later. Technology. Kids are being brought up with a screen in front of their face. I watch kids on buses trying to talk to their parents and they’re even given a phone as a babysitter or the parents just ignores them to go on Facebook.

Nah, it’s a parenting issue trying to disguise itself as an education issue. Kids are free to join whatever club they want at school but parents are blaming everyone else but themselves when their own children don’t want to tell them things. If it were done by students, the school would have to be unaware of it anyway. Either the school would not know about it anyway, or when it did find out, it would involve authorities with those extreme examples.

Unbelievable people believe allowing children to privately be part of a gay or trans etc club that is school-sanctioned but not allowing the parents to know. Or you can raise children to have Air Arya Shirt decent values such caring for other people, empathy, compassion, etc so that you can trust their judgment when they join a club at school that they would rather you didn’t know about until they were ready to tell you.
