It was an experience that neither my parents nor many other parents wanted to have to subject their children to. They, probably quite rightly, thought it was safer to keep an infant unvaccinated at home than to risk exposing them to heaven knows what diseases in a Cow I’ve Got It All Together I Just Forgot Where I Put It Shirt doctor’s waiting room. By the time my own children were born things had improved.

We had the Cow I’ve Got It All Together I Just Forgot Where I Put It Shirt regular visits of a health-worker/nurse who came to check on the progress of your infants and administer their vaccinations and fill in their Red Health record book – so it was more friendly and less scary than the dreaded doctor’s waiting room. My children got a 4-in-1 covering diphtheria, whooping cough, polio and tetanus and I think there was a repeat booster a few months later, a Hib vaccine and then the MMR vaccine for measles, mumps, and rubella.

Their Red books show they were due to have their BCG/TB at the age of 11 but for whatever reason, they never got it as it was taken off the schedule before they reached that age. Counting the number of doses of vaccine given I make that 11 2 x 4-in-1 + 1 x Hib + M + M + R doses in 4 jabs. At the time we were told that it was better for children to have the combined MMR than having to have 3 separate individual vaccinations .but a few years later they decide a single MMR dose was not effective enough so they were to be given a 2nd MMR dose aged 3.
My children were asked to get a 2nd MMR shot when they were aged 10 or 11 in a catch-up program as they missed the introduction of the 2nd shot for 3-year-olds. That was at the same time as Dr. Andrew Wakefield was all over the papers and TV and even on the Cow I’ve Got It All Together I Just Forgot Where I Put It Shirt new-fangled internet.
